Ponghwa Art Theatre was opened to public in July, Juche 71 (1982).
Covering the total floor space of 45 000㎡, it is a monumental edifice of the Juche era peculiar in form and contents.
A 2 000-seat auditorium for operas, 800-seat one for dramas are comfortably placed around the central hall.
It also has over 40 practice rooms for singers, instrumentalists and dancers, and about 30 rooms for creative work, all soundproof and equipped with recording devices.
There many art troupes from home and abroad gave their performances in various occasions including the April Spring Friendship Art Festival, and thus positively contributes to the people’s cultural and emotional life.
