Founded on September 10, Juche 36 (1947) and honoured with the Order of Kim Il Sung, it is a world-class educational institution of fine arts.
   It has trained many international competition winners and other talented artists who created excellent works that contributed to the development of the times and revolution.
   It has strived to put its education on a highly scientific, theoretical and modern footing, in the course of which it has trained many talented artists and produced important textbooks and reference books, greatly contributing to the development of the education of the Juche art.
   It has educational units including Korean Painting Faculty, Pictorial Art Faculty, Graphic Painting Faculty, Sculpture Faculty, Technical Art Faculty, Industrial Art Faculty, Basic Art Science Faculty, Specialized Course, Educational Faculty, On-line Education Faculty, Social Sciences Department, Post-graduate Course, Art Practice Room and Art Instruments and Materials Manufactory.
   It also has scientific research units including Scientific Research Department, Education and Scientific Research Room, Juche-oriented Fine Art Research Institute, E-library and Art Exhibition Hall, and the fine art creation unit, that is, the Pyongyang Art and Education Exchange Company.
   It has performed great feats not only in fine arts education but also in the supply of fine arts works to major projects of the state, thus greatly contributing to building a powerful socialist country.
  In this course, it has developed into a “pedigree farm” which produced many Kim Il Sung Prize Winners, People’s Artists, Merited Artists, candidate academicians, professors and doctors.
